Swords and sorcery type comics don't get far with me. The slack genre clichés have long since gone mouldy and should be thrown out with the other trash. So when I started reading this title I wasn't expecting much. Lone figure rides into a tavern...Yeah yeah. However, against my prejudice I found that as I proceeded I was enjoying myself.

Artwork wise James deals very well with a range of animals, animorphic creatures, costumes and scenery. He varies his approach, knowing when to go for detail and when to let a few lines represent the action. He also handles some intricate layouts without getting the story flow confusing for the reader.

As for the story, it's an introduction and a fight scene that move along at a nice pace, with a good line in wise cracks. I couldn't help but s mile at lines like Sorry, it's just you and me. My men have an aversion to honourable death.

References are made throughout to the court of King Arthur though none of the main characters appear in this instalment. I've put my name down to get #2.

In a Word: Rounded.
