When Ann Simpson was filming for Kids from O.W.L. she came in for a bit of teasing from her colleagues at the Christchurch doctor's surgery where she otherwise works' as a receptionist.

A computer had just been introduced into the surgery and she was having difficulty in mastering it. Wearing her other hat as an actress, she was playing Mrs Foskett-Hewson, a sweet little old lady who constructs sophisticated weaponry and is an expert with computers.

Ann Simpson, 48, came to New Zealand from England 20 years ago. She has two grown-up daughters. Though she has never been a full-time actress, she has been acting ever since she was a child. Her first professional role was playing a panda when she was 11.

She has worked with Court Theatre in Christchurch and is the voice for the character Beattie in the Television New Zealand puppet series Woolly Valley.
