Happy Birthday (04/06/1986)
It's party time for those, use or assocate with the Wakefield Community House; they're celebrating its first birthday. In fact this is the first of 38 episodes of Open House, Television New Zealand's major drama production for the year. The action revolves around a core of 10 — Tony Van Der Berg runs the house, and runs into strife when his wife Penny Davies takes a job in another town leaving him to care for his teenage stepdaughter. Conflict arises also for senior sergeants Mary Moody and Ray Frazer who try to juggle the pressures of the job and private of the job and private life, and for Ngahoia and Jim Mitchell when political responsibilities overlap those of the family.
Want to get things going, join a club, or just have a chat? Wakefield Community House is the place to do it. Call in anytime.
It's the first birthday of the house, and time to party. But for a young girl and an old man whose lives are touched by the house and its activities, there is little to celebrate.
