The female impersonator and all-round entertainer, Danny La Rue, broke off his concert tour of Australia to record this variety show in New Zealand.

Using the biggest studio in the Southern Hemisphere, Television New Zealand’s Studio 8, for his show, Danny La Rue introduces some very well known ladies to some rather peculiar settings — Marlene Dietrich met up with a sheep-shearing gang for instance, and the Mae West got her come-up-pance from a team of rugby players.

Providing a musical interlude were familiar faces as Danny’s “Nana Mouskouri” and “Demis Roussos.” seen together for the very first time. Jon Gadsby and David McPhail wrote much of the script, giving local angles to the humour, and they also appeared in the show.
