Beauty quest held in the Christchurch Town Hall, with a large proportion of the programme  shot on outdoor locations throughout New Zealand.

The American singer, Rita Coolidge, was the host, along with the former New Zealand broadcaster, Heather Eggleton, on holiday from Canada

Entertainers performing included Sharon O’Neill, Tina Cross and The Nares, as well as the Philippines singer, Khu Ledesma.

Produced by the independent production company, South Island Film and Television, the programme was to screen in Australia, Turkey, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Colombia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Hawaii and South Korea. 

The quest attracted protests on the night with only 300 of the 1200 seats available at the Christchurch Town Hall filled. The production was left owing money to creditors and South Island Film and Television eventually being wound up and its directors declaring bankruptcy.
