A documentary on the short life of New Zealand’s well known writer, made to celebrate the centenary of her birth

The documentary outlined of Katherine Mansfield’s life, the people she knew and the stories she wrote.

Filmed in five countries —- New Zealand, France, England, Switzerland and Germany — the documentary traced Katherine Mansfield’s life from her birth in Wellington in 1888 to her early death in 1923 at the Gurdjieff Institute in Fontainbleau, France.

It used the places where she lived to highlight significant events and happenings in her life. It also used archival film footage, including excerpts from an interview with her lifelong friend Ida Baker and an extensive collection of photographic stills to capture the era in which she lived.

Much of Katherine Mansfield’s life is revealed in her own words, taken from her letters and journals, as well as autobiographical passages from her stories. “Gloss” star Ilona Rogers was the voice of Katherine Mansfield while New Zealand actress and “Gloss” co-star Catherine Wilkin narrated the documentary.

Commentary from recent biographers and other Mansfield scholars detailed the significance of her life and work.
