n 2 December 1996, TVNZ announced that, following that day's announcement of a $1 million annual sponsorship agreement with NZI Insurance, Crimewatch changed its name to Crimescene and would screen on TV2 (now TVNZ 2) in a weekly half hour format during 1997.
NZI Crimescene was a series of reports about recent unsolved crimes and helpful crime prevention tips. Fronted by Mairanga White, who had co-anchored Crimewatch with Ian Johnstone since 1995, NZI Crimescene ran on TVNZ for two years (1997 and 1998)
