Barry Holland and Peter Sinclair hosted a search for the best all-round sportsman.
Twelve of the big names in New Zealand sport competed over three days of competition in the following events: Weightlifting, rowing, gymnastics, swimming, tennis, mustering, woodchopping, 100-metre sprint, cycling, soccer, 800 metres and obstacle course.
The competitors were: Grant Batty (defending champion), Jack Swart, Precious McKenzie, Adrian Elrick, Bruce Robertson, Barry Maister, Gary Hurring. John McDonald, Mike O'Rourke, Bruce Brownlee. Kevin Herlihy and Peter Snell.
