You know those nights you just can't seem to get to sleep? When every noise is a warning of something bad happening, where the beating of your heart grows louder and louder? I do. They mostly happened when I was a child and a monster lurked in every corner of the room.. J.B. obviously remembers those kinds of nights as well, as this book is just such an experience put to paper.

The text of this book takes the form of a monologue, with the narrator describing His/her feelings. They describes the thoughts that run through their mind. Heartbeats become the sound of footsteps. Whose feet? A soldier, a trio of strange creatures? It could be anything.

The stream of imaginings is accompanied by expressionistic b/w fine line illustrations that effectively adds to the creepy, dreamlike quality of the narration. The text is written in an appropriately spooky script., The images we see of the narrator huddled in their bed succinctly put across the terror at the "heart" of the story.

While it would be a brave person who would read this in bed before they go to sleep, it is easy to recommend this comic to anyone who appreciates well crafted storytelling Thud Hey!, did you hear that! It sounded like someone outside....

In a Word: Chilling.
