"MINIBURGER" OFFERED IN THE CURRENT PREVIEWS
*********************************************************************

MINIBURGER
by Stripburger

Top Shelf Productions is proud to present MINIBURGER, the latest release from the internationally renowned comics team from Slovenia, known as Stripburger. Formed in October 1992, Stripburger is still the only Slovene (multilingual) publisher covering news in comics, theories on comics, and works of Slovene and foreign comic authors (there have been 29 projects released so far). Besides publishing, the Stripburger crew also organizes comic exhibitions and has had a large influence on changing the attitude towards comics in Slovenia. They even won the Alph-Art prize at the 2001 Angouleme Comics Festival.

This year, Stripburger wanted to encourage cartoonists to express themselves in the 24-page mini-comic format. A ballot of the five-member Stripburger editorial team made the selection for the MINIBURGER. The final assortment is an international dirty dozen: five Slovenian (Andrej Stular, Jure Meden, Ciril Horjak, Matej Lavrencic and DYS00), two Italian (Stefano Zattera, and Maicol & Mirco -- actually a duo), two Serbian (Mr. Stocca, and Wostok & Ivana Filipovic), one Bosnian (Amir Idrizovic), one French (Pakito Bolino) mini graphic novel, and an English 12-pager (by Luke Canavan). The stories range from classical to surrealistic, to parodies on contemporary art, to stories that take place in the cinema, in the woods and in the computer. 276 total pages of comics, all in English, and all packed in a nice looking box.

-- $19.95 (US), A boxed set of 12 deluxe mini-comics (24 pages each, except for one which is 12 pages). 276 pages of comics in all. Each mini comic has a color cover and black & white interiors, and is 4 1/8" x 5 7/8". The box itself is 4 1/4" x 6" x 1".

"DEAR JULIA," MOVIE DEBUTS
*********************************************************************

DEAR JULIA,
A film by Alistair Banks Griffin
Based on the graphic novel by Brian Biggs

Directed by Alistair Banks Griffin and based on the graphic novel by Brian Biggs, this 20 minute short film takes a darkly comic look at a man standing on the edge of sanity. Boyd Soloman believes he can fly and is eight floors above a San Francisco street intending to prove it. DEAR JULIA, is the story of how he got there. Boyd's vivid memory of the past and shaky comprehension of the present give clues to the events that lead him to the edge: his childhood, his parents, and a particular trip to Tucson, Arizona where everything began to go terribly awry. This visually charged film, currently being submitted to film festivals around the country, does the graphic novel proud. Arrangements are currently being made to showcase the film at an upcoming convention, but in the meantime, VHS copies can be purchased from Top Shelf for $19.00, postpaid.

TOP SHELF SIGNS RICH KOSLOWSKI'S "THREE FINGERS"
*********************************************************************

Rich Koslowski, the creator of the three-time Eisner nominated GEEKSVILLE series, has just joined the Top Shelf family; signing on to do a graphic novel to be released in 2002. Entitled THREE FINGERS, the graphic novel will take a twisted look at the lives of some of our most celebrated Cartoon actors and their histories in the film industry. It will also uncover one of the most shocking secrets behind the animation industry. The story will reveal the grisly lengths that the studios and the actors would go to achieve success. Told in the same style as a Ken Burns documentary, with interviews of the 'Toon stars today and historical "file footage" of the "early years," this work of fiction will forever change the way you think of those beloved characters in the white gloves. Keep an eye on the topshelf website, as they will be posting the cover and sample pages as the project develops.

NEXT MONTH FROM TOP SHELF

THE HIGHBURY WORKING
A musical performance CD by Alan Moore & Tim Perkins
(on Steven Severin's RE: label)

Coming up next month is THE HIGHBURY WORKING, Alan Moore's new performance CD from Steven Severin's RE: label. This CD, the collaboration of Alan Moore & Tim Perkins, is a hallucinatory journey through the darker secrets of the Highbury area of London. It gives up some of the lesser-known facts about the checkered past of this hitherto respectable part of the sprawling metropolis.

First performed upstairs at The Garage in the winter of 1997, The Highbury Working RE:creates the magickal spoken word performance of Alan Moore and sets it against the brooding atmospheres and soundscapes of Tim Perkins (best known for his musical achievements with Finality Jack). Whether it's the brutal gangland slaying of Jack the Hat (by those 'legends' of mayhem the Krays) or the opium-tinged reveries (and nightmares) of poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge, The Highbury Working charts infinitely more interesting and rewarding realms of London than the tourist brochures tell of.

-- $20.00 (US), Special Limited Import Music CD, being solicited in next month's PREVIEWS catalog.
