He had extensive experience in film, television and fashion make-up in England, France and America after leaving New Zealand for 17 years . His clients included seven Miss Worlds. Miss America and even Phyllis Diller and Jean Alexander (Hilda Ogden).
After his return to New Zealand he was resident make-up artist for Television One's Town Cryer and styled the make-up for the extensive list of 'guests Max has had during the series. This includes Kiri Te Kanawa, Glen Campbell, Rod McKuen, Pee Vamey, Bully Saint Marie, Patrick Cargill and Melanie — to name but a few.
David had two golden rules about his craft:—"Fashion is one thing — but what may suit you is another," he says, "and always remember that the art of make-up is NOT to look made-up.
