The Retrievers was a serial screened as part of What Now, about a detective agency, Simpkin’s Retrieval Agency. In Simpkin’s absence, his bumbling cousin Kevin, played by Michael Wilson, takes over and regardless of the efficiency of his assistant Doris, played by Jane Waddell, he manages to get them both into trouble — with the baddies and the police. The adventure revolves around Kevin and Doris trying to stop the museum curator making any more copies of priceless Maori artefacts and selling them. With each episode, viewers are invited to phone in their choice of ending. Two endings are presented and the most popular continue the following week.
