According to a Listener article at the time of the show's launch, the premise for this was people from small Kiwi towns got the chance to show their piece of paradise in a positive light by describing what is special about Clyde or Kaikohe etc. Then Peter Bell designed a custom-made stunt for said town that would bring them worldwide adulation, and the townsfolk auditioned in a Popstars kind of way. That’s where Gunn came in, apparently. First up was Whitianga.
